AFL SportsReady (AFLSR) is a national not for profit employment and education company that has facilitated employment and education for thousands of young Australians since 1994. Whilst having a history of excellence in the football industry, we now work across sectors including the arts and creative industries, education, business and the broader sports and recreation sector, to create education and employment opportunities for young people across Australia.

Through our Group Training Operations, we support hundreds of trainees and apprentices across the country every year, placing them with host employers to enable them to gain on-the-job experience whilst undertaking a formal qualification.

Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Program (Warumilang) provides vocational traineeships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, as well as direct recruitment and professional development services.

AFLSR is a national organisation with a head office located in Melbourne and regional offices in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, and Perth. This position may be based in multiple locations, with remote working options available.

THE OPPORTUNITY

AFL SportsReady is seeking to appoint a Program Lead to work with our First Nations Programs on a full-time, 3-year contract. Reporting to the Executive Manager – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Programs, this role would suit someone who has a strong project management and delivery background, and is comfortable with all areas of project management including reviewing, improving and implementing.

As a successful candidate, you will have a passion and energy to enact change, have a proactive and positive attitude, and be an excellent communicator and collaborator. You will be able to adopt a highly organised approach to managing your workload and confident at working at both a high and low levels.

Key areas of responsibility for this role include:

  • Working with the Executive Manager – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Programs to achieve team objectives;
  • Leading the development of company cultural competency;
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating projects under the First Nations Programs;
  • Developing and implementing initiatives under AFLSR’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP); and
  • Coordinating and facilitating internal / external network and working groups.

BENEFITS

  • Full time, 3-year fixed term contract;
  • Flexibility for 4-day working week option upon request;
  • Flexible work arrangements available;
  • Base salary between $86.5k and $93.5k per annum (commensurate with experience);
  • Superannuation at 10% on top of base salary;

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

The following are essential requirements of the role:

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education and Employment programs and services;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the barriers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people may face, particularly in relation to education and employment;
  • Demonstrated project management experience (including developing, implementing and evaluating);
  • Demonstrated experience with program review and improvement, and ‘hands on’ experience with implementing new services and ways of working;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Highly collaborative approach, and ability to maintain strong working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders;
  • Proven organisational skills, ability to multi-task, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines and targets;
  • Identify as a First Nations candidate;
  • Current Working with Children Clearance; and
  • Up to date COVID-19 vaccination status, in line with ATAGI recommendations.

Desirable requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience working in a team to deliver employment and / or education programs;
  • Demonstrated experience working with senior stakeholders; and
  • Knowledge of the vocational education and training (VET) sector.
