The Aboriginal Family Legal Services (WA) aims to provide free and culturally secure legal support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims and survivors of family violence and/or sexual assault. AFLS services support clients in matters pertaining to family law, care and protection matters, family violence restraining orders and criminal injuries compensation to Aboriginal people who have suffered, or are experiencing, family violence within their community.

We are seeking a full-time Social Worker to be part of the National Redress Scheme. The successful applicant will work closely with our clients to provide them with practical and emotional support to through all aspects of the redress process. The role is in our Rivervale office.

This position will be responsible for working with the Solicitor in management and support of our clients and will oversee the delivery of case management support to our clients ensuring they are connected to additional support services.

To be considered for this position you need to meet the following criteria:

Essential:

  • Bachelor of Social Work or Bachelor of Social Science
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant post degree experience
  • Experience of trauma-informed practice, working in the area of child sexual abuse and sexual assault
  • Excellent communication skills including oral and written
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people
  • Able to travel when required

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in trauma and child sexual abuse
  • Previous experience working with indigenous clients

Essential Eligibility Requirements

  • Current ‘C’ Class WA Driver’s Licence
  • Current Police Clearance Certificate
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Covid 19 Vaccinated
