Aboriginal Family Legal Services (WA) aims to provide free, culturally secure, legal & support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims and survivors of family violence and/or sexual assault.

Our organisation of 45 staff across six regional offices throughout Western Australia hence this role offers a wide scope of exposure to varied accounting tasks and duties. This will be a full-time role working from our corporate office in East Victoria Park.

Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the organisation’s financial management systems and processes.
  • Supervise the operations of the organisation’s payroll, superannuation and salary packaging benefits, and accounts payable/receivable.
  • prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial budgets or other statements
  • Daily monitoring of income expenditure and cash flow
  • Complete timely and accurate tax reporting, including BAS and FBT returns.
  • Preparing and working with external auditors in relation to annual financial statements audit
  • Management of AFLS property portfolio, including managing lease agreements, procurement, building security etc
  • Maintain AFLS’ insurance portfolio, ensuring appropriate cover against business risks
  • Maintaining organisation asset register as required
  • Other ad hoc financial duties and reports as required

Essential Criteria

  • Degree qualified with CPA or CA qualification
  • Minimum of 5 years similar experience working as an accountant
  • Prior experience in a Senior Finance role, including budget preparation, reporting to senior internal and external stakeholders, and audit preparation
  • Broad range of financial management and administration skills and experience, including banking administration, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, tax returns and cashflow management
  • Prior experience in asset and property management
  • Accounting qualifications and membership of a relevant professional body
  • Excellent communication skills including oral and written
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines
  • Sound computer skills including experience with Xero accounting software
  • Ability to travel regionally (infrequently)

Desirable

  • Experience in working with either: Not-for-profit, Government Funded and or Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation would be highly regarded.

Essential Eligibility Requirements

  • Current ‘C’ class WA Driver’s License
  • Current Federal Police Clearance
  • Working with Children’s Check
