About this Role

This role is an important part of the Reform team, focussed on building the movement for gambling reform. It has particular responsibilities to mobilise our supporters and organise our civil society allies, in order to more effectively campaign and advocate for reform of the gambling industry in Australia. By necessity, the role is involved in both campaign strategic planning and tactical actions.
It is a position that is collaborative and flexible. It depends on a deep understanding of organising and mobilising within campaign frameworks. Sound political and social judgement balances technical knowledge of CRM tools.

It reports to the Head of Reform and Campaigns, and works closely with other staff and volunteers across all streams of the Alliance. Some interstate travel may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Play a key role in mobilising supporters and organising allied groups, to support campaign activities

  • Maintain and improve the Alliance’s CRM, including managing supporter journeys, in collaboration with the Communications and Network Teams

  • Improve existing data on individual supporters to maximise participation in campaign opportunities and fundraising activities

  • Be responsible for the design and implementation of digital and face to face activities to keep our supporters engaged and ready to act for campaigns

  • Play a key role in designing and implementing digital and face to face actions to build the capacity of organisational allies to participate in campaign and advocacy opportunities, in consultation with Reform and Network teams

  • Attend community group and CSO meetings on behalf of the Alliance, with a view to developing gambling reform networks that support and amplify our campaigns

  • Conduct stalls and outreach opportunities assisted by supporters and other volunteers

• Participate in the design, development and implementation of campaign strategy and tactics within the Reform team

  • Be familiar with the key components of our land-based (poker machine) and online gambling campaign strategies in order to assist in campaign events

  • Be able to supply basic statistics, data and policy positions related to our campaign areas, if required by other parts of the organisation

  • Work with supporters and colleagues to undertake events such as meetings with decision-makers, social media jamming, talkback radio calls, and community actions

• Other duties as reasonably required

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skill

• You understand and have sound experience in community organising and mobilising in a fast-changing environment

• You have some experience in planning and implementing effective campaigning strategies to achieve advocacy goals

• You relish and have experience in analysing political and technical challenges to provide advice on how best to achieve reform

• You are familiar with CRMs. You will be able to curate and improve data for individual and organisational supporters, including taking responsibility for supporter journeys

• You’re a team player. You are both flexible and open, empathetic and patient.

• You are a skilled and effective communicator and can motivate people to take action

• You learn fast and are keen to achieve reform to minimise gambling harm

• It would be helpful if you had a current Australian Driver’s licence.

Nature of Position

The position is aligned to the SCHADS Award, level 4.1

It is a 0.8 (60.8 hours per fortnight) - 1.0 (76 hours per fortnight) FTE role - by negotiation.

It may involve some after-hours availability
