We are currently in our 71st year of service delivery and we provide Allied Health services including Psychology, Positive Behaviour Support, Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology across QLD, NSW, VIC, SA and WA.

About the opportunity

As a Speech Pathologist you will be responsible for providing supports to a diverse caseload of NDIS participants between the ages of 7 and 65 years. Afford supports individuals presenting with a range of disabilities including intellectual impairment, autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, neurogenerative disorders, genetic disorders, and physical disabilities.

About You

We are looking for professionals with a genuine desire to support individuals with disabilities lead exceptional lives. We are open to applications from individuals with varying degrees of experience and are able to provide support to further develop skills for the right applicants. The role is best suited to individuals who enjoy the freedom of managing their caseload and service delivery, whilst working within a strong and supportive multidisciplinary team within a primarily community-based role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and implement intervention approaches and strategies that are evidence based, holistic, client-centred and outcome driven.
  • Assess communication and mealtime management needs.
  • Utilise a range of assessment tools and techniques.
  • Investigate assistive technology that is best suited to individual clients. Assist with trials and complete assistive technology applications.
  • Collaborate with families and multidisciplinary teams when designing intervention plans to achieve client goals.
  • Provide training and support to assist clients, families and carers with the implementation of intervention plans and programs.
  • Write comprehensive assessment and review reports.
  • Autonomously meet administrative components of the role including timetable and caseload management, booking of appointments, completion of progress notes and reports in a timely manner. 

Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Speech Pathology
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
  • Current Working with Children, NDIS Worker Screening and NSW Police Check
  • Experience working with paediatric and adult clients with a disability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High level interpersonal communication and customer service delivery skills
  • Strong organisation and time management skills and the ability to work autonomously within a complex environment characterised by competing demands and tight timelines.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively within a team and independently
  • Commitment to personal and professional development
  • Current unrestricted driver’s licence

Graduate Program

For applicants with under 12 months experience we provide a tailored new graduate program. This includes: 

  • Discipline specific program in the development of key skills required to be successful in the role.
  • Gradual stepped increase in direct client work including no KPI’s for first 3 weeks of employment.
