Project Officers x2 - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities

Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations
  • Do you have a passion for work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities?
  • Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment?
  • Would you like to work in Australia’s community-controlled HIV response?

In partnership with Anwernekenhe National HIV Alliance (ANA), two Project Officer positions, responsible for ensuring HIV related issues of relevance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are more meaningfully integrated into Australia’s HIV response, are now open for recruitment.

AFAO leads the national effort to end HIV transmission on behalf of its member organisations who represent the diverse communities most affected by HIV – lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) communities, sex workers, people who inject drugs, people with HIV and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

AFAO’s members include the AIDS Councils in each State and Territory and national organisations collaborating with AFAO to enable the appointment of this position. These organisations are the National Association of People With HIV Australia (NAPWHA), the Australian Injecting and Illicit Drug Users League (AIVL), Scarlet Alliance, the Australian Sex Workers Association, and the Anwernekenhe National HIV Alliance (ANA). ANA is Australia’s national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander HIV community-led organisation and aims to ensure the voice of Indigenous Australians is heard, supported and has impact within the Australian HIV response. AFAO’s affiliate member organisations – spanning community, research and clinical workforce – share AFAO’s values and support the work we do.

AFAO supports its members by leading the national conversation on HIV, advocating for AFAO’s Members and communities in forums and government processes and providing a public voice on HIV, and by developing national health promotion campaigns and other education resources to provide contemporary information about HIV and STI testing, prevention and treatment to the communities represented by our member organisations.
