Role Summary

The Membership and Training Officer will be responsible for recruitment and retention of members with a specific focus on new members. They will work as part of the Growth, Training and Membership Team. They will be an integral part of the Unions overall recruitment strategies, providing specific advice to the Branch Secretary and the Leadership Team. They will coordinate with the Training Officer the work of the Growth Team Officers. Their role will include specific training of new teachers, university graduates and school representatives, in consultation and working with the Training Officer.

Key Responsibilities

  •  Work with the Branch Secretary, Training Officer and relevant leadership to develop recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Work with the Training Officer to promote AEU membership to pre-service and beginning teachers.
  • Develop and coordinate strategies for the recruitment and retention of permanent, casual, part-time and unemployed teachers and ancillary staff. Including a focus on transitioning student members to full membership.
  • Work with the Training Officer in supporting other officers through training in the areas of recruitment and retention in consultation with the Branch Secretary and the Lead Organiser.
  • Work with the Training Officer and other officers as appropriate (e.g. Growth Team Officers) in the development of courses, events and conferences for new teachers, student teachers and new activists.
  • Coordinate the work of the Growth Team Officers with the Training Officer.
  • Coordinate and run graduate recruitment seminars and university workshops in consultation with the Training Officer.
  • Assist the Training Officer as appropriate with training especially as it relates to the areas of recruitment and membership.
  • Work to assist in recruiting TAFE, SSO’s, AEW’s and ECW’s.

Officers may be required to undertake other duties as requested by the Branch Secretary.
