The Australian Education Union - ACT Branch invites applications for the above vacancy. Members of the ACT Government Service are eligible to take LWOP from the employer to fill this position.
Role Objective
To develop and build members’ participation and collective power in their workplaces, with a strong emphasis on recruiting new members and developing AEU sub-branch leaders in ACT schools and TAFE.
Duties of the Position
This role will focus on meeting key AEU objectives including:
- Building a stronger voice for our members by ensuring union membership increases and member participation in union activity grows.
- Empowering sub-branch members by building and maintaining active sub-branch representative structures.
- Identifying, training, mentoring and supporting our sub-branch leaders.

- Demonstrated commitment to trade union principles and public education
- Demonstrated understanding of the industrial and professional issues facing public educators in ACT schools and TAFE
- A sound understanding of organising and recruitment principles
- Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of training
- Ability to plan and organise work and achieve outcomes within identified timeframes
- Demonstrated ability to work semi-autonomously and demonstrate initiative
- Excellent listening, verbal communication and interpersonal skills – ability to establish rapport, explore issues and gain commitment to action
- Demonstrated punctuality, enthusiasm, energy and creativity to do a demanding job in a challenging environment
Special Conditions
Salary: $106,448
Licence: It is a requirement of this position that employees have a current driver's licence and a registered and appropriately insured motor vehicle for use in the position. Employees are entitled to an allowance for work-related travel.
