Australian Doctors for Africa is seeking a part-time Finance Administrator for approx. 21 hours per week.

Australian Doctors for Africa is not-for-profit volunteer medical humanitarian organisation committed to improving the health and wellbeing of poor communities in Ethiopia, Madagascar, Somaliland and Comoros. We provide medical training and services, hospital equipment and infrastructure development to enable greater access to treatment and long term sustainable development.

We are looking for a Finance Administrator to join our small team to effectively coordinate, manage and maintain the financial and administrative needs of ADFA. The role requires a person who can demonstrate strong skills in all aspects of financial management, and work independently and take initiative.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Financial Management including international payments, managing infrastructure project budgets and international bank accounts
  • Reconciliation of foreign exchange
  • MYOB bookkeeping including invoicing and receipting, account reconciliations, general journal entries, quarterly BAS, single touch payroll
  • Government compliance reporting (eg ACNC, ATO)
  • Monthly Board Financials
  • Preparation of the Concise Financial Report for the Annual Report
  • Banking and receipting of donations
  • Recording values for donated medical equipment, volunteer hours and other in-kind donations
  • Funding submissions and acquittals
  • Management of insurance requirements
  • Volunteer trip reconciliations (when travel resumes)

Selection Criteria

  • At least 3 years bookkeeping experience using MYOB (including Single Touch Payroll).
  • Relevant qualification in bookkeeping and/or accounting.
  • Experience in working with foreign currency.
  • Previous NGO experience and/or knowledge of Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) regulations.
  • High level of computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office and database management.
  • Exceptional written skills with experience in the preparation of reports, submissions and acquittals.
  • Ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team.
  • Strong organisational skills, demonstrated by the ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability working with a diverse range of stakeholders, including Board Members, funding bodies, government agencies, auditor and supporters.
  • Knowledge and commitment to overseas medical humanitarian aid programs consistent with the role of ADFA (Desirable)

What’s on offer?

  • Part-time, approx 21 hours per week (prefer Monday, Tuesday and Friday)
  • Salary from $70,000 (pro-rata and commensurate with skills and experience), plus 9.5% superannuation. Under current taxation laws, up to $15,899 of the base salary may be taken as a tax-free fringe benefit

A current National Police Clearance must be provided by the successful applicant prior to commencement.

Only applicants legally entitled to live and work permanently in Australia will be considered for this position. Free street parking in 2 or 3 hour bays is available, with the onus being on the employee to monitor their parking.
