ADEC is a not for profit organisation assisting people with a disability, their families and carers from diverse cultural backgrounds. Operating out of 3 locations across Melbourne, we currently have a vacancy for a part time Senior NDIS Appeals Officer to join our team based in Preston.

Your new role

The NDIS Support Unit provides support to NDIS clients, their carers and families via ADEC’s NDIS Programs. As the Senior NDIS Appeals Officer you will work one-to-one with people effected by a NDIS decision to assist them to navigate the reviews process. There is an emphasis in this role to help build the client’s self-advocacy skills and awareness of their rights.

Other duties will include:

  • Monitor a caseload of clients who have requested support with a review
  • Maintain quality electronic client files
  • Participate in relevant advocacy and appeals networks
  • Work with community groups to offer education on rights in relation to NDIA reviews
  • Supervise Appeals Officers in the NDIS Appeals team
  • Support students undergoing work placements at ADEC
  • Other duties as directed by the NDIS Support Unit Coordinator

What you’ll need to succeed

You are a passionate and dedicated individual who is looking to make a difference in the community with a demonstrated commitment to disability human rights and social justice.

Essential

  • Previous advocacy or social work experience
  • Understanding of the reviews and appeals process
  • Previous experience working with people with disabilities and their carers
  • Excellent coordination and time management skills

Desirable

  • Social Work qualifications or equivalent
  • Leadership experience
  • Previous experience using interpreters
  • Experience working with people with disability and carers, from ethnic communities
  • Experience working with NDIS participants
  • A second language
