ADEC is a not for profit organisation assisting people with a disability, their families and carers from diverse cultural backgrounds by empowering them to fully participate as members of the community. Operating out of 3 locations across Melbourne, we currently have a vacancy for a Community Services Groups Coordinator to join our Projects team.

Your new role

ADEC provides a unique multicultural support program for language-specific social support groups and community access high needs groups, focusing on participants with disability from CALD communities, and their carers. The aim of the Community Services Groups program is to provide their members with the opportunity to meet others of similar background in similar circumstances and for them to be able to share their experiences. As the Community Services Groups Coordinator you will supervise a team of Facilitators and manage a range of capacity building projects.

Responsibilities and duties will include:

  • Recruit and train bi-lingual Facilitators, and plan their professional development
  • Review the Groups program as necessary to ensure that it meets the service requirements and targets set by government funding authorities
  • Liaise and consult as required with partners, funding bodies and government departments regarding the needs of participants
  • Support Facilitators to deliver services to participants and care recipients and to increase participation rates in support services
  • Initial and ongoing assessment of participants to ensure that they participating in projects/workshops that are relevant to their needs
  • Coordinate the program’s current activities and future development, including its publicity and promotion, and contribute to submissions
  • Maintain records for clients with Home Care Packages, and ensure accurate invoicing
  • Contribute to program funding through grant and tender writing to appropriate funding bodies
  • Prepare reports on the program’s progress and development
  • Work closely with the Capacity Building Projects Coordinator to deliver capacity building activities based on the needs and interest of target groups
  • Complete staff appraisals and performance reviews

What you’ll need to succeed

You are a passionate and dedicated individual with proven experience in a comparable role. You have the ability to develop strategic partnerships with ethnic communities, multicultural organisations, peak bodies, research institutions, government bodies and key stakeholders.

You will also be able to clearly articulate and demonstrate:

  • Community development skills and experience
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining community groups, or project planning and implementation
  • Ability to build rapport with a diverse range of clients
  • Ability to work with clients with complex support needs
  • Ability to build and manage a team
  • Report writing skills
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Driven, energetic & committed
  • Competent in Microsoft Office programs

Desirable

  • Formal qualifications in social work, community development, community services or related areas
  • Previous experience working with people with disability
  • Previous experience working with carers from ethnic communities
  • Experience of budget preparation and expenditure tracking
