ACT Greens MLAs Johnathan Davis, Jo Clay and Andrew Braddock, and Ministers Shane Rattenbury, Rebecca Vassarotti and Emma Davidson are seeking 7 policy and political advisors for their Assembly offices.

The roles include providing briefings, speeches, correspondence and other outputs; research; liaison with a range of internal and external stakeholders; and working closely with other staff to deliver policy advice and progress items in the Parliamentary and Governing Agreement.

The successful candidates will have strong research and analytical skills and be good communicators. The ability to manage relationships with a range of stakeholders and work with limited supervision in a dynamic environment will be critical to your success in this role. An understanding of parliamentary processes and the ACT political system would be an advantage.

Ministerial political advisors will also support their minister with cabinet, legislative, budget and sitting work.

The successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment, or willingness, to implement ACT Greens principles and policies.

Duties

• Manage large quantities of information, determining priorities and ensuring deadlines are met by developing policy and political initiatives and providing advice, briefings, speeches, social media support and other outputs for the MLAs as required
• Analyse and review complex policy issues and assist with issues management and prepare for Assembly sitting periods
• Liaise with the community and stakeholders and assist with committee, electorate and constituent activities and assist communications team including responding to media inquiries and organising events as required
• Ministerial advisors will also assist with legislative development and budget preparation processes
• Assist in running of the office including answering the office phone and responding to media enquiries, emails and correspondence as required
• Apply a demonstrated commitment, or willingness, to implement ACT Greens principles and policies around ecological sustainability, social justice, peace and non-violence and grassroots participatory democracy
• Other duties as directed.

Selection criteria

1. Strong research, analytical and problem solving skills;
2. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal and relationship management skills;
3. Capacity to work independently, meet deadlines and work under pressure;
4. Experience or understanding of community or campaigns sector; and
5. Experience or understanding of parliamentary systems, legislation and/or the ACT political system an advantage

The positions will be available from January 2021.

The roles are for the four-year term of the 10th Assembly and are set at Adviser Level 1 (Upper) at $79,310 – $105,345 depending on experience, plus superannuation and 9.5% loadings in lieu of overtime and Long Service Leave.

Successful candidates will be engaged under a Legislative Assembly Members’ Staff contract, and other terms and conditions of employment are governed by the ACT Legislative Assembly Members’ Staff Enterprise Agreement 2018 – 2021. They are not ACT Public Service positions.
