About the job...

We are seeking a dedicated Specialist Domestic & Family Violence Practitioner to join our caring, compassionate and friendly team based in Maryborough.

This position is full-time, fixed term to 31 December 2022. Extension of employment contract beyond December 2022 is subject to the continued successful government funding of the program.

Working as part of the Intensive Family Support (IFS) Service, this position will provide specialist domestic and family violence advice and assistance to colleagues and people contacting the service.

Key responsibilities

  • Assess referrals into the IFS to screen for domestic and family violence.
  • Undertake risk assessments where domestic and family violence is identified.
  • Provide colleagues and enquirers with advice on safe engagement strategies for families affected by domestic and family violence.
  • Participate in home visits where appropriate.
  • Assist with the assessment of client needs and decisions regarding intensive support, case management and referral pathways.
  • Maximise the domestic and family violence capability of the IFS in partnership with local domestic and family violence services.

About you...

  • A tertiary degree in a relevant discipline (allied health, social work, human services).
  • At least 5 years working in a domestic and family violence capacity.
  • An understanding of contemporary issues and challenges in the field of child protection and approaches to enhancing child safety and wellbeing.
  • Experience and knowledge of domestic and family violence issues including theory, dynamics and the impact on individuals, families and communities.
  • Ability to engage, empower and build strong working relationships with a diverse range of clients stakeholders, partners and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated assessment, analytical and counselling skills, as well as strong communication skills (written, verbal and non-verbal).
  • Cultural awareness and an understanding of how to communicate and work effectively with families from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Eligibility for a positive Working with Children Check in the applicable state of employment in Australia or exemption based on professional qualifications and registration.

About the pay...

  • Position is classified Level 5.1 – 5.3 under the SCHCADS award.
  • Salary range is $84,855 - $88,703 plus 10% superannuation (pro-rata for part-time).
  • In addition, as a registered Not for Profit/Charity, we offer excellent salary packaging options through RemServ which can significantly increase your take home pay.
