About the SMART Initiative...

Specialised Multi-Agency Response Teams (SMART) is an interagency partnership between key government departments including Youth Justice, QLD Health, QLD Education, Child Safety, and Cultural Representatives, for children who are between the ages of 10-18 yrs, at high risk of reoffending/being remanded in custody, have significant vulnerabilities, and who require the involvement of more than two SMART panel agencies. The SMART panels allow for the gathering and sharing of relevant information between agencies, which supports a comprehensive overview of client needs, along with the identification of appropriate interventions to meet these needs.

About the job...

We have a great opportunity for a SMART Coordinator to join our North Queensland team on a maternity leave contract. Located in Townsville, this position is part-time (0.6FTE) fixed term from 18 October 2021 to 12 August 2022.

With your collaborative and professional approach, you will be an experienced practitioner who is familiar with the Townsville sector and highly motivated to work towards positive client outcomes, whilst supporting the SMART panel. If you are passionate about working with children and young people, enjoy working in a cross collaborative approach, and have a desire to join a for-purpose organisation this role is for you.

Key responsibilities

  • Escalate and coordinate resolution of issues with SMART agencies (Youth Justice, QLD Health, QLD Education, Child Safety, and Cultural Representatives) and their participation in SMART.
  • Receive and consider referrals and progress these to the SMART panel.
  • Chair fortnightly panel meetings, with representatives from the SMART agencies.
  • Monitor capacity of SMART to accept new clients by liaising with the SMART panel.
  • Ensure outcomes of SMART meetings are communicated to young people as appropriate and by the most relevant agency.
  • Collate information and provide to youth justice court coordinator for progression to court.
  • Engage directly with young people and their families for consent, confirmation of action plan goals and feedback processes.

About you...

  • A tertiary degree in a relevant discipline (psychology, allied health, social work, human services).
  • At least 5 years’ experience working within the child protection or the youth justice environment with highly developed knowledge of child protection and youth justice.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and foster good working relationships with key stakeholders, partners and the community.
  • Cultural awareness and an understanding of how to communicate and work effectively with families from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Excellent time management, coordination and organisational skills.

About the pay...

  • Position is classified Level 6.1 – 6.3 under the SCHCADS award;
  • Salary range is $92,704- $96,805 plus 10% superannuation (pro-rata for part-time);
