About us...

Act for Kids is a prominent provider of free prevention, professional therapy and support services for children who have suffered abuse and support for families at risk. With over 25 centres nationally, we have supported thousands of children and their families for 30 years. In 2018 - 2019 we provided services to 46,084 people, including over 31,000 children; a 15% increase from the year before.

Our unique multidisciplinary teams provide integrated therapy, sexual abuse counselling, safe houses in remote Indigenous communities, information, advice and referral services, intensive family support and early learning centres designed for children with additional development needs to ensure we set them up for success at school.

About the job...

We are looking for a Psychologist or Counsellor to work within the Act for Kids Dakabin service. This is a part-time 0.6FTE fixed term position until 30 June 2021. Extension of employment contract beyond December 2021 is subject to the continued successful government funding of the program. The role entails:

  • Working in the Act for Kids service in Dakabin to enhance psychosocial outcomes for children and young people impacted by trauma, based on the existing Act for Kids practice framework
  • Providing an outstanding therapeutic service to children, young people and their families
  • Building referral pathways to grow and sustain the business
  • Being a key representative of Act for Kids in Gympie
  • Identify and work toward client goals, and achieve successful case outcomes for clients
  • Attend stakeholder meetings for the benefit of clients and develop case plans

About you...

  • A tertiary qualification in psychology (with national registration as a psychologist); or an appropriate degree qualification with membership of the Australian Counselling Association at a minimum of Level 3 membership
  • At least two years’ experience working with children, young people and their families who have been impacted by trauma or experienced abuse and neglect, or at least five years’ experience working in similar roles
  • Experience providing individual and group therapy to children, young people and their families
  • Clinical and therapeutic understanding of the impacts of trauma on child and family functioning and knowledge of current trauma treatment trends
  • Ability to rapidly acquire an understanding of relevant child protection legislation and policy reforms

About the pay...

  • Position is classified Level 6.1 – 6.3 under the SCHCADS award
  • Salary range is $87,576 - $91,438 plus 9.5% superannuation (pro-rata for part-time)
