ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

As a Board Director, you will be responsible for providing quality advice to the Managing Director on strategic objectives, legal and financial accountability, fundraising, and advocacy for the organisation.

Acres and Acres Co-op launched as a grassroots start-up to conquer food shortages in a remote, and at times isolated area, seeking to make fresh quality produce available to all community members. We’re capturing a snapshot of knowledge along the way, and then sharing it with the community. The project is transforming to include an educational model with a ‘bricks and mortar’ people engagement focus. This year we will be appointing (3) positions to complement the existing directors.

You will perform a vital role in our organisation; governing through a transitional stage to lay the foundation of our culture and longer-term direction. To execute the Board Director’s role, you will need to commit to attending typically six-eight board meetings each year. A combination of in-person and online meetings will be held.  Directors will be able to attend in-person meetings virtually if they are unable to travel. Directors are not remunerated, however, all out-of-pocket travel costs will be covered.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend meetings in person or virtually
  • Be actively involved in all aspects of the board function
  • Adhere to governance standards and quarterly check-ins against the NFP organisation
  • Assist the managing director to navigate the changing environment and preparing key milestones for the organisation
  • Provide tactical advice on strategic planning for the organisation's future
  • Participate in problem-solving and taking on opportunities
  • Be involved with attracting and assessing human resources
  • Be committed to growing growers and focusing strategic direction on this core value
  • Addressing local food shortage and food wastage by adapting other systems and solutions
  • Provide executive support to the Managing Director

WE VALUE

Clear and empathic communication - it’s impossible to work together as a team if individual members don’t fully understand one another, communication skills are imperative for anyone working in our team environment.

A collaborative approach - interest in working with others to align on our solutions to food system challenges.

A holistic view - willingness to learn about the big picture. When we understand the interdependencies across the entire food system, we lead positive change more effectively.

An openness to new perspectives - by expanding knowledge and networks to include those outside of your immediate area of expertise, we change the way we work and think and drive greater impact.

An innovative mind - good ideas don’t require a stroke of genius, but rather a clear line of sight, creative thinking and a willingness to learn through failure.

Critical thinking - with constant change in the food system, leaders must understand how to solve problems. Leaders with fresh ideas and the ability to apply concepts across disciplines will be essential to move initiatives for a hunger-free, sustainable food future-forward.
