The Australian & New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine Limited (ANZSPM) is a not-for-profit specialty medical society for medical practitioners who provide care for people with a life limiting illness.

Our purpose is to improve health outcomes for every person with a life limiting illness living in Australia and New Zealand. ANZSPM achieves its purpose by promoting excellence in Palliative Medicine and fostering the professional development of its members.

About the Opportunity

The Australian and New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine (ANZSPM) currently has an exciting opportunity for a new CEO to lead their team in Canberra.

This position is offered on a permanent part-time basis (0.7 FTE).

The CEO is responsible for the day to day implementation of ANZSPM’s key strategic objectives. The successful applicant will work closely with the ANZSPM President and ANZSPM Council (board) to achieve those objectives. Applicants must have excellent communication, negotiation and management skills.

The CEO is responsible and accountable for developing and achieving the ANZSPM Strategic Plan in consultation with the ANZSPM Council, building ANZSPM’s reputation, profile and impact, and overseeing operations, policy and planning.

The CEO also serves as ANZSPM’s Company Secretary with responsibility for Council meeting administration, regulatory compliance and reporting. The CEO is also responsible for ensuring secretariat support is made available for ANZSPM committees, special interest groups and working groups.

The CEO has three direct reports based in the Canberra office. An administrative officer based in New Zealand provides support to the Aotearoa Committee.

To be considered for this role you will possess tertiary qualifications in a related field. The skills and experience you bring to the role will be varied and include, development and delivery of strategic outcomes, business administration, financial management, event management and corporate governance.

Leading a small team, you'll be an effective manager with an ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills as well as oversee workloads efficiently. You will also be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism, ethics and judgment in all the work you do.

In this exciting and challenging position, you'll need to be able to coordinate priorities and develop an understanding of current and emerging themes to ensure they are taken into account in all policy and advocacy work.

Delivering programs under tight and competing deadlines, you'll be a results focused individual with the ability to think strategically and creatively to solve problems. In addition, you'll need to be able to demonstrate good networking and collaborating skills as you develop relationships with relevant stakeholder organisations.

Importantly, you will be willing to undertake duties at a variety of levels to support a small organisation structure.

You will need to be available to travel interstate and to New Zealand for short periods as required.

Prior experience working within the health sector and/or with professional membership associations will be highly regarded. Knowledge and understanding of palliative care will also be favourably considered.
