The Organisations

About WWF

For over 50 years WWF has been a leading voice for nature. We are a global conservation organisation, working in 100 countries and with over 5 million supporters. We work with governments, businesses and communities on environmental issues with a single mission: to build a world where people live and prosper in harmony with nature.

We have our foundation in science and we work towards a sustainable planet, striving to conserve biodiversity in Australia and throughout the Oceania region. Behind the scenes of our on-ground conservation projects are teams of scientists, policy and communications experts, lawyers and other specialists, all supported by our regional and national staff members.

WWF-Australia does not engage in activities that support political parties, seek to persuade members of the public to vote for or against particular candidates or parties in an election, participate in party political demonstrations, or distribute material designed to underpin a party political campaign.

WWF-Australia’s strategy requires all staff to support the delivery of our conservation objectives across the following strategic priorities: Conserve Nature with Equity, Return the Climate to a Stable State, Support Planet Friendly Food, Save Threatened Species, Protect our Marine Life and Engage Millions as Active Stewards and Investors of Nature.

About ACF

The Australian Conservation Foundation is Australia’s national environment organisation – over 600,000 people creating a world where forests, rivers, people and wildlife thrive.

A handful of people formed ACF 50 years ago when mining first threatened the Great Barrier Reef. Now the ACF community has grown into a powerful force for nature.

We bring together people from community, government and business. Our community advocates against pollution and destruction, and for our living world. We hold decision makers to account. We champion big ideas, and find common ground with unlikely partners.

We love and protect the web of life right across our continent, from the Kimberley to the Reef, the reef down the Great Dividing Range to Tasmania’s forests.

People power our campaigns. We are proudly independent, non-partisan and funded by donations from our community.

The Role

This position will provide crucial research support to WWF and ACF as they develop an exciting new campaign to replace Australia’s fossil fuel exports with renewable energy exports.

Australia is one of the world’s largest coal and gas exporters. Whether burned here or overseas, our fossil fuels are accelerating the climate crisis. However, Australia also has access to some of the world’s best renewable energy resources. Replacing our fossil fuel exports with clean energy technologies is an enormous opportunity to reshape Australia’s economy in the interests of people and planet. This new campaign is about envisioning and championing a future for Australian society that is powered by clean energy, not coal and gas.

You will be responsible for reading and summarising key literature that will inform the development of this new campaign. You will be employed directly by ACF and covered by all ACF conditions.

Your Skills

  • Passion for shifting Australia’s economy away from fossil fuels and towards clean energy.
  • Highly developed research, analysis and reading skills.
  • Ability to rapidly understand complex policy, technology and regulatory issues.
  • Strong written communication skills.

If this is you, we want to hear from you! Don’t miss this exciting opportunity.
