The Position

The Department of Policy, Research and Partnerships functions to enable the College to respond more effectively on behalf of Fellows and trainees to challenges and opportunities within emergency medicine and the wider health sector.

In this pivotal role, your primary responsibility will be to enhance the Australian-based College members’ experience of engaging with ACEM on policy issues, as well as support their efforts to advocate for the advancement of professional standards in emergency medicine and the wider health sector. Please note this is a full-time / permanent position based in Melbourne, Australia.

Your duties will include leading member engagement, planning and delivery for effective advocacy and campaigns project strategies. You will liaise with Faculties, Faculty Chairs, and Faculty Boards regarding policy issues and arising challenges. Writing reports, submissions, briefing papers, speeches, letters and other materials that effectively communicate and promote ACEM’s policy positions to support jurisdictional advocacy will also form part of this role.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant tertiary and post graduate qualifications in an appropriate health, social science, political science, business/legal or other relevant discipline;
  • A sound understanding of the Australian and New Zealand health care systems and government processes coupled with an ability to work well with internal and external stakeholders, including senior stakeholders, in a complex, sensitive and fast paced environment;
  • Ability to accurately perceive and judge the formal and informal influences that shape decision making, particularly with government policy making and implementation processes;
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing advocacy strategies and influencing decision makers.
