THE ORGANISATION

ACD Tas (The Association for Children with Disability Tas Inc) is a peer-led not-for-profit organisation providing family support services, including Advocacy & Information, The Peer Network Hub, Case Coordination, Consultation and Training. Our vision is that people with disability, their families and carers have equal opportunity to reach their potential and lead fulfilling lives.

THE ROLE

An Advocate plays an integral role in supporting parents, carers and guardians across Tasmania to address inclusion and participation issues and exercise their rights in order to gain the best outcomes for their children with disability up to the age of eighteen.

This may include supporting people with disability to exercise their rights, through one-to-one support or by the provision of information that will assist people to advocate for themselves. The Advocate may work alongside parents and family members to act on behalf of a family member with disability, always acting in the best interests of the child. The Advocate will also identify issues requiring community development and/or systemic advocacy.

ACD Tas offers a competitive salary with attractive salary sacrifice options, flexible hours & days and workplace options. Salary is based on SCHADS award, dependent on qualifications and experience.

The successful applicant will be working from our Hobart office (part-time - 30 hours / week)

IDEALLY YOU WILL HAVE

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification and/or proven experience in relevant disciplines
  • An ability to work with a high level of professional autonomy and within a team
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise comprehensive levels of discretion and professional judgment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the issues and challenges relevant to people living with all disabilities
  • A detailed understanding of the support systems designed to support people with disability across various Government and non-Government sectors
  • Knowledge and understanding of and the ability to work within the relevant legislative requirements
  • A comprehensive level of interpersonal skills in dealing with stakeholders and team members
  • The ability to write concise, professional communication and reports with a strong research focus
  • Highly developed Computer skills
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Working with Vulnerable People (Children) Registration
