The intent of the Out of Home Care program is to provide a secure, safe and supportive home environment for children and young people who cannot reside with their families. The program includes Family Group Homes, Specialised Foster Care and Transitional High Needs.

The Therapeutic Carers will be based in South West (Bunbury), Peel (Mandurah, Rockingham) and South Metropolitan (Armadale) area.

In this role:

  • You will develop and maintain a safe, supportive and home-like environment where children can develop intellectually and emotionally.
  • You will build relationships and rapport with children in care while teaching them skills and engaging them in a range of educational and recreational activities.
  • You will engage with children and young people who present a range of complex behaviours, who often have difficulties forming lasting relationships.
  • You will be supported in your role through comprehensive training and development, specific to our Out of Home Care program.

Essential requirements

  • Certificate III and/or IV in Child Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and Out-of-Home Care or Child Protection) or approved equivalent.
  • Experience working with children or youth in a care setting.
  • Working with Children Check.
  • National Police Clearance.
  • Form 395 Clearance from Department of Communities.
  • Drivers Licence.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Desirable requirements

  • Two years experience working with or caring for children and young people who present with challenging or complex behaviours.

The position includes participation in a live-in rostered model of care and short notice of availability is required at times. Our programs operate 24 hours/7 days a week and Therapeutic Carers need to be available and willing to work weekdays, weekends, public holidays and sleep shifts. An example of a full time roster is three days on duty and three days off duty
