Parenting Advice Support Worker - Bunbury Regional Prison

As a Parenting Advice Support Worker, you will be responsible for the delivery of proactive, person centred parenting advice and support services to clients in Bunbury Regional Prison. Our Parenting Advice Support Workers case manage clients, facilitate parenting education groups and contribute to the coordination of family events. Our goal is help improve the lives of our clients, and their children, to contribute to a reduction in recidivism in our community.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide parenting education, advice and support to clients within a trauma informed, case management framework
  • Assess client needs and risks and develop goal orientated case management plans
  • Empower clients to strengthen family relationships, develop positive parenting skills and engage with appropriate agencies and services where appropriate
  • Contribute to the creation and delivery of parenting and relationship education and skill development workshops
  • Apply trauma informed principles in all aspects of your work with clients
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to design and deliver family events
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with external and internal stakeholders, including Bunbury Regional Prison management and staff, Department of Communities and service providers
  • Primarily spend your work day within Bunbury Regional Prison
  • Participate as an active team player within a multi-disciplinary team, providing support across the team when required.

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or another relevant field of study
  • Demonstrated experience providing case management services to vulnerable clients
  • Strong working knowledge in the application of trauma informed practice in case management
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing client needs and risks and developing person centered case planning to address barriers and support clients to achieve their goals
  • Professional experience, or a sound understanding, in delivery parenting and relationship education, advice and support
  • Demonstrated experience in empowering clients to develop skills, overcome challenges and increase connection 
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, evaluating and monitoring service outcomes
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in improving outcomes for clients with complex needs
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team to achieve outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering quality support services and maintaining professional boundaries
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, comply with organisational policies and procedures and a strong understanding of maintaining personal and client safety at all times
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of situational awareness and personal safety in a secure environment
  • Excellent IT skills with a demonstrated ability to operate client management systems and reporting software
  • Self-motivated team player who enjoys working within a challenging, fast-paced community services environment
  • An ability to obtain and maintain a Working with Children Check, National Police Clearance, Drivers Licence, First Aid Certificate and Department of Justice Security Clearance.

Desirable

  • Experience in delivering education or therapeutic group programs to vulnerable clients
  • Experience working with clients engaged with the justice and/or child protection systems
  • Understanding of reintegration and rehabilitation services in Western Australia
  • Experience working within a secure environment
