Access Community Services Limited (ACSL) is Australia's leader and specialist in settlement, employment, training and youth and social enterprises for migrants, refugees and mainstream clients, in Queensland, particularly in the South East. As a community based, not for profit organisation limited by guarantee, we boast over a 30 year history of serving our local community which was originally established in Logan in 1984. We are committed to fostering community development, youth, settlement and employment initiatives and to providing personal support programs to address the needs of disadvantaged youth and community groups including migrants, refugees, humanitarian entrants and visa holders.

Position Overview

The Community Education Coordinator leads a small team of Community Educators who deliver settlement educational and capacity building programs to newly arrived refugees, migrants and other contractual target groups. Community Education programs aim to develop the target groups independence in navigating Australian society and build social inclusion and cohesion, primarily under the SETS and YTSP contracts. In addition the role oversee the financial management and process of the Emergency Relief Program.

This is a fixed term full time position based in Logan Central, travel to Ipswich or other outreach sites may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overall development, deliver and supervision of programs and activities that are culturally sensitive and of a quality standard across the Community Education Team
  • Overall supervision of the team and ensure that they meet performance indicators relevant to the programs
  • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant local stakeholders and services, enabling cross-service collaboration on programs
  • Monitor and meet Emergency Relief budgets, ensuring financial accountability across the ER team
  • Implement continuous improvement and evaluation processes across all programs

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum 4 years' experience in the sector and/or Tertiary qualifications in Human Services, Social Work or relevant discipline
  • Preference to hold Certificate IV in Training and Assessing
  • Relevant experience in developing programs, with skills in program evaluation
  • Experience in delivering capacity building programs to CALD communities or other disadvantaged groups
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the multicultural sector including relevant government policies and programs
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and an awareness of cultural sensitiveness as appropriate
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with a good understanding of not for profit organisation processes
  • Possession of paid Blue Card or ability to obtain one
