The Opportunity

Are you a current or recently graduation law student looking for an opportunity to develop your skills and experience? The Legal & Risk team in the Brisbane Head Office are seeking a Paralegal on a part-time basis. With dual reporting lines to the Senior Contracts Manager & Legal Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel, in this role you will assist in the management of the legal, contracts, country registrations and insurance affairs of Abt Australia and Abt Britain’s business and operations.

As a Paralegal, you will support the following areas:

Legal:

  • Support the Senior Legal Counsel manage the legal affairs of Abt Australia and Abt Britain, including assisting in drafting, records management, internal reporting, maintaining registers, managing external service providers and undertaking research across a broad range of legal issues (e.g., employment, safety, privacy, data protection, contracts, tax, immigration, insurance, funds, private international law, intellectual property, corporate and commercial law);

Contracts:

  • Support the Senior Contracts Manager manage the contracts and procurement affairs of Abt Australia and Abt Britain, including assisting in records management, internal reporting, maintaining registers, and reviewing and approving (in line with delegated authority) client agreements, consultant agreements, employment agreements, subcontracts, supply agreements, grant agreements, leases, and other contracts;

Country registrations:

  • Support the Senior Legal Counsel manage Abt Australia and Abt Britain’s country registrations, including assisting in establishing, maintaining and closing out foreign registrations;

Insurance:

  • Support the Senior Financial Accountant manage Abt Australia and Abt Britain’s insurance affairs, including assisting in policy claims, acquisitions, renewals and maintenance as required; and

General duties:

  • Other reasonable duties as required.

About You

To be successful, the ideal candidate will share our values, be approachable, professional and adaptable. As well as being a current, or recently graduated law student, you will have:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong problem solving and attention to detail skills;
  • The ability to work in a team environment;
  • The ability to work concurrently on multiple complex tasks and to respond to changing priorities;
  • Prior relevant work experience (desirable but not essential)
