An exciting opportunity has become available to work for Barnardos, one of Australia’s leading children’s charities. Barnardos Australia builds relationships between children, young people, their families and the community. They advocate for children and young people and contribute to community knowledge about their issue.

The Role

Barnardos are looking for a full-time Youth and Family Caseworker for the Youth Support Services Team based in Cranebrook,Penrith. This is a contract position to 30 June 2022.

The Youth and Family Caseworker will provide day to day casework that is consistent with the contract specifications and Barnardos Policies and Procedures. The role includes: daily case coordination; Outreach service provision; home visiting; liaising with external service providers, including schools, FaCS, health, etc; and engaging with young people and their families. The casework is youth-focused and family centred, which means direct engagements and support for the young person, as well as working with family members as determined by the requirements of the case.

This position requires travel throughout the Nepean Blue Mountains area which covers Local Government Areas of St Marys, Blue Mountains and Penrith.

The Candidate

The successful Youth and Family Caseworker will ideally have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Science, Community Services or a related field
  • 2 years’ experience working with children and young people and their family in a child protection context
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs and concerns of families and children within the Penrith LGA
  • Knowledge of child protection issues with the capacity to identify when level of risk requires safety planning and statutory child protection intervention
  • Knowledge of Youth Homelessness and Youth Services within the Blacktown and Penrith LGA’s.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a case load and skill in the provision of assessment, casework and case planning
  • Working knowledge of assertive case management practices for working with young people and families who may be unwilling to engage with support services
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Child Protection Legislation, Practice and requirements within the NSW Child Protection System

To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number).

You will also need a full drivers license and capacity to participate in an on-call roster, providing a 24/7 response to children, young people and families.

Salary

$67, 027 - $71, 345 base (including FBT packaging) + benefits + Super. Motor vehicle packaging optional.
