The Role

The Caseworker (Permanency Specialist) conducts permanency assessments for potential adoption or permanent care outside of the birth family and makes recommendations for adoption or permanent care following assessment and provides post order support to post adoptive families and families that have PR for children who were once in out of home care.

The Candidate

  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development and the implications of abuse and trauma
  • Demonstrated understanding of the special needs of children in disadvantaged families
  • Understanding of the issues related to working with volunteer carers and an ability to provide support services in often complex situations
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with ACT Care and Protection Services and the Department of Family and Community Services and other relevant government and non-government agencies along with demonstrated links with existing relevant networks within the Care field
  • Exceptional written communication skills and ability to prepare reports
  • Qualifications in related disciplines such as Social Work, Welfare, Social Sciences, Psychology or other relevant qualifications

Barnardos works closely with Aboriginal Partnership Agencies in the community and would welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates.

Salary: (Base & Superannuation)

$68,875 - $82,514 base (including FBT packaging) + benefits + Super. Motor Vehicle packaging is optional.

Additional information

To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance, current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check.
