An exciting opportunity has become available to work for Barnardos, one of Australia’s leading children’s charities. A position for an Intake Child Protection Officer is required for the Intake Team with ACT Together based in Bruce, ACT.

The Role

Reporting to the Intake Manager, the Intake Child Protection Officer will be responsible for ensuring the best care outcomes for children and young people through managing incoming referrals for children and young people requiring out of home care.

This position will be offered at a minimum of 28 hours per week including evening & weekend shifts. There is also an on-call requirement.

The Candidate

The ideal Intake Child Protection Officer will have:

  • Qualification in Social Work and/or relevant accrued specialist experience in Out Of Home Care-related work
  • Working knowledge of relevant child protection and related legislation including knowledge of the Children and Young Person’s Act, 2008 (ACT)
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with ACT Care and Protection Services and the Department of Family and Community Services and other relevant government and non-government agencies along with demonstrated links with existing relevant networks within the Care field
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, presentation, communication and consultation skills enabling successful negotiation, conflict resolution and liaison which includes the ability to credibly represent Barnardos in any forum
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in stressful situations

Salary: (Base & Superannuation)

$62,996 to $71,345 base (including FBT packaging) + benefits + Super.

Additional information

To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance, current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check
