Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement (ALRM) is an independent Aboriginal community-controlled organisation governed by an all-Aboriginal Board. Through the provision of legal services and associated activities, ALRM promotes legal, cultural, economic, political and social rights for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within South Australia.

ALRM auspices the South Australian Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation Network (SAACCON), which is a network of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations in South Australia. It was established to provide advice, recommendations, and guidance to the Coalition of Peaks (CoP), and the South Australian, Commonwealth and Local Governments on the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.

The SAACCON Project and Stakeholder Engagement Officer supports the project implementation and build relationships with various stakeholders including members of SAACCON. Attendance of all National Coalition of Peaks meetings and representation of agreed Coalition of Peaks and SAACCON views in forums and meetings with Government and other stakeholders including media are expected.

This Part-time position is offered on a fixed term basis for 12 months with possibility of further extension depending upon ongoing funding. Position is also subjected to six months of successful probation period.

This position primarily services the South Australia region and is in Adelaide CBD. It attracts a 10% super, generous salary packaging options, and 35 hour working week ( 28 hours working week for this position) .

Skills and experience required for the role:

  • A commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples being self-determining and a capacity to work effectively in a culturally appropriate manner.
  • Demonstrated relevant tertiary qualification or previous work experience.
  • Ability to set priorities to achieve project goals and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, preferably in the community services sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
  • Strong communications skills, both verbal and written including ability to present to a diverse audience.
  • Strong consultation and negotiation skills to resolve conflicts in a tactful manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Excellent time management, report writing and computing skills.
  • Certificate IV in Project Management is desirable
