Located either in North Ryde, NSW or Parkville, VIC the Philanthropy Manager will support the Philanthropy team to effectively communicate with donors and potential donors, mostly associated with the Dementia Australia Research Foundation (DARF) by translating researcher information into lay terms and packaging that into donor relevant resources. To ensure DARF donors are informed about and inspired by the work of the Foundation and its researchers, and confident in its successes so as to help ensure strong fundraising growth for DARF.

Reporting directly to the Philanthropy Manager, you will also be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing an engaging donor communication strategy for DARF donors, including but not limited to: eDM, written fact sheets, video content, and impact reporting
  • Translating scientific project proposals into 2-page lay summaries for potential and existing funders and creating extended milestone summaries so funders and potential funders can see the results of past research projects
  • Working with the GM Research and National Innovation, Philanthropy and Opportunity Manager to compile an accurate and dynamic impact communications series, including but not limited to an intensive written impact report
  • Working with the individual giving team to provide short research summaries suitable for direct mail and donor care booklets, and updates for end of financial year thank yous.
  • Coordinating the production of professional, web-friendly videos featuring specific researchers in order to engage social and web audience in the research journey and successes.
  • Producing a bi-monthly e-newsletter to donors with an interest in dementia research
  • Working with Dementia Australia marketing team, or via a fundraising delegation, to ensure appropriate stories and information are being publicised on social media, traditional media, and in other routes to market, to appropriately highlight the opportunities available to donors to engage with and support research
  • Ensure DARF messaging is consistent across the organisation.
  • Work with the Trust & Foundations Specialist and Major Gifts Specialist to develop donor engagement events aimed at current and future major research donors

To be successful in this role you will be a team player, have excellent interpersonal communication skills and meet the key selection criteria outlined below.

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Excellent written communication skills
  2. Experience converting scientific papers to lay terms (desirable)
  3. A sound knowledge of the importance of different languages for difference audiences
  4. Experience writing for donors or a willingness to learn
  5. The ability to keep multiple parties on track for a common deadline
  6. Strong supplier communication skills. and customer service skills
  7. Experience dealing with designers and printers
  8. Experience in donor stewardship, thanking and cultivating donors (desirable)
  9. Experience with design software such as Adobe Indesign, or the capacity to learn it quickly
