We are currently seeking an experienced Counsellor to join our Client Services team based in East Perth, WA, on a part time (0.6 FTE), fixed term contract. As a Dementia Counsellor, you will provide support to people living with dementia, their families and carers to enhance their quality of life through the provision of individual, group or family counselling, and other related activities. The position promotes wellbeing and builds self-efficacy through face to face, telephone, or online counselling and innovative service responses.

Reporting directly to the Client Services State Manager you will also be responsible for:

  • Identifying alternative services and supports needed by people living with dementia and their families and carers and making appropriate internal and external referrals as required
  • Screening and assessing clients to ensure that appropriate and timely services are received.
  • Ensuring services are delivered from an enablement and empowerment perspective, focusing on the needs and rights of the person living with dementia and their families and carers.

To be successful in this role you will be a team player, show an absolute commitment to the delivery of high quality dementia services and support and meet the key selection criteria outlined below.

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Registration with, or eligibility for membership of, a relevant professional body or association (e.g. Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, Australian Counselling Association, Australian Association of Social Workers or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia)
  2. Extensive counselling experience
  3. Knowledge and understanding of the impact of the diagnosis and progression of dementia on the person and their family.
  4. Experience in the delivery of educational information and group programs
  5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, presentation skills etc.)
  6. Well-developed case note, record keeping and report writing skills
  7. Demonstrated capacity to deliver high quality presentations across a diverse community

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in a related field of either Psychology, Social work or Counselling
