About the program

Wesley Financial Counselling is a free, face-to-face, confidential counselling service that provides comprehensive, specialist counselling support to eligible people in order to address the immediate distress caused by financial hardship and enable our clients to build longer-term capability to budget, manage their money and make informed financial decisions in the future.

About the role

We are looking for outstanding Intern Financial Counsellors who are conscientious, reliable, and motivated about making a difference. As a Financial Counsellor you will be working with a team of exceptional professionals who practise within an evidenced based framework. This is a 12-month internship with an opportunity for a permanent position upon completion.

All staff at Family & Gambling Services work hard to develop and maintain harmonious working relationships in an autonomous-supportive work environment where they are all trained to be the best in their field.

Essential criteria

  • Completing, or willing to complete, a Diploma in Financial Counselling
  • Holds, or willing to obtain, Trainee Associate Membership of the Financial Counsellors Association of NSW
  • Work closely with vulnerable and socially disadvantaged communities and clients in a non-judgemental manner
  • Work in a community setting and prepared to work in the field
  • Cultural competence and experience working alongside CALD and Aboriginal families
  • Current, or provisional, NSW or National driver’s licence
  • Successful applicant will need a Working with Children Check & National Criminal Record Check

Desirable criteria

  • An interest in and knowledge of problem gambling issues
  • Welfare industry background or training
  • Experience in delivering community education programs
