An excellent opportunity is available for a Grants Advisor to join the International, Philanthropic and Industry portfolio within the Research Grants and Development Office at Australia's pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the position

The Research Grants and Development Office is in an exciting phase of expanding its strategic support to WEHI researchers, senior leaders and professional services teams. This Grants Advisor role will be responsible for facilitating Institute-wide research development initiatives and research grant administration and management with an emphasis on continuous process improvement.

Selection Criteria

Education/Qualifications

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications, ideally postgraduate degree in a science discipline or demonstrated equivalent experience and/or training

Essential Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • High level analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills
  • An inclusive work style and ability to work supportively and collaboratively with a high level of energy, enthusiasm and initiative and a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, while committing to continuous personal and business improvement

Research Management Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating implementation of strategies to increase research income from government (e.g., NHMRC, MRFF etc.) and / or other funding sources (e.g., philanthropic, industry etc.)
  • Knowledge of research grant management including the ability to analyse funding and other agreements, prepare variations and reports to funding bodies (scientific and financial) seeking advice and escalating issues when required.
  • Knowledge of grant funding programs, research funding rules and regulatory framework, and grant management across the grant lifecycle
  • Experience supporting researchers to prepare grant applications including provision of resources for proposal and budget development

Terms of appointment

This position is an ongoing role in a full time capacity. Salary is Professional Services Employee Level 7 ($97,991 - $106,076). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
