The Haven - Nepean Women’s Shelter is a crisis accommodation service for up to 6 women with or without dependent children, who are experiencing homelessness due to domestic violence, or other issues. The service operates primarily with shift work in usual business hours and afternoon shifts, with an 'on-call' facility to ensure women and children can access the service after hours.

The Haven is dedicated to supporting and empowering women to take control and move on with their lives. Our clients are supported with client-centric case management and are encouraged to pursue opportunities to find financial security. An understanding of the homelessness sector, awareness around current issues and practice in domestic violence and good knowledge of housing pathways are key skills for this role.

Under the provisions of the Anti-Discrimination Act (NSW) 1977, being a woman is an essential criterion for this position.

Essential criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience within the community services sector in a caseworker capacity
  • Demonstrated understanding of client-centric practice
  • Degree or demonstrated work experience in social work, social welfare, community services or other related discipline
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated work experience with women who have a history of domestic violence and/or homelessness
  • Ability to think innovatively and creatively to develop tailored client solutions
  • Ability to respond adaptively in a residential case work model
  • Availability and flexibility to work across day, evening and overnight shifts, including weekends
  • Current first aid certificate or capacity to acquire one before commencement
  • Have a valid Police Check or be willing to obtain one before commencement
  • Working with Children Police Check or be willing to obtain one before commencement
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence
  • The right to live and work in Australia

PLEASE NOTE:

The Haven operates 7 days a week and therefore flexibility for early mornings, weeknights, weekends and potential on call as required from time to time is essential.  This position would suit women living locally.
