Volunteering Australia (VA) is the national peak body for volunteering working to advance volunteering in the Australian community. Our mission is to lead, strengthen, promote, and celebrate volunteering in Australia.

The Position:

The Project Manager’s primary responsibility is to plan and manage the National Volunteering Strategy Project.

The National Volunteering Strategy will provide coordination and a strategy roadmap that will benefit the volunteering sector; and will be inclusive of the interests of a broad range of volunteers, Volunteer Involving Organisations (VIOs) and Volunteer Support Services (VSS) across Australia. It will be designed to enable volunteering across Australia to become more effective, inclusive, relevant and sustainable in the future, and will complement existing state and territory volunteering strategies by building on the work progressed by the states/ territories.

A National State of Volunteering Report will bring together data and information on volunteering trends across Australia, and will provide a critical evidence base for the development of the National Volunteering Strategy.

Contract period: 12 month contract with opportunity to extend.

Duties:

  • Manage the project development from design and initiation to closure
  • Be accountable for the project along with the National Volunteering Strategy Project board
  • Lead and coordinate the project team
  • Define project roles, provide a project schedule and track, and record all project deliverables
  • Undertake stakeholder analysis and develop/maintain stakeholder relationships
  • Develop and oversee co-design and stakeholder engagement activities, including drafting defined inputs and outputs
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders across the volunteering ecosystem and beyond
  • Deliver selected project outputs, for example drafting research/policy/practice Issues Papers
  • Resolve any issues and solve problems throughout the project lifecycle

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience in delivering complex multi-stakeholder projects
  • Demonstrated experience and/or working knowledge of the volunteering sector
  • Demonstrated sound interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective networks with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated sound problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise and time manage to ensure effective delivery
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Efficient at using IT platforms and databases including maintaining accurate and timely records
