Villamanta is a Victoria-wide specialist Community Legal Centre (CLC) based in Latrobe Terrace, Geelong West, which is close to the Geelong CBD and public transport.

We provide a range of legal and advocacy services to Victorians with disabilities, and we prioritise working with people with intellectual disabilities. We are passionate about our work with our clients, and we also deliver high quality community and clinical legal education, and policy and law reform and systemic change.

Villamanta is currently looking to expand our reach and our impact through the development and implementation of a new 5-year Strategic Plan (2023-28).

About this role

We are looking to recruit a passionate and suitably qualified (and experienced) Senior Lawyer. This position is directly accountable to the Principal Lawyer and will be expected to backfill the Principal Lawyer (as deputy manager) from time to time.

You will also help people on Supervised Treatment Orders (STO’s), and people experiencing Financial Abuse and problems with Guardian and Administration. Most recently, we’ve expanded services to provide legal assistance and community education about workplace sexual harassment and informed consent.

To be qualified for this role, you will hold (or be eligible to hold) an unrestricted practising certificate from the Victorian Legal Services Board (VLSB&C), and you will understand the issues that affect people who have a disability.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated, mentoring and leadership experience; including ability to work collaboratively as an efficient and productive team member
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality legal services and tribunal or court representation (without direct supervision)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills suitable for a range of audiences, including strategic and community stakeholders, as well as stakeholder management and negotiation skills
  • Proven strong level of initiative and organisational abilities; including time management
  • Demonstrated commitment to the protection and advancement of human rights
  • Advanced computer skills relevant to the operation of Microsoft programs, and Villamanta’s data systems.
