Shooting Stars is an education engagement program that empowers Aboriginal girls and young women to achieve their dreams. Founded in 2015 Shooting Stars program is now based in 20 schools across Western Australia and South Australia, reaching more than 900 girls and young women. Shooting Stars staff, 85% of whom are Aboriginal, adapt the Shooting Stars program to meet the needs of their community and its participants, providing sport, health and wellbeing sessions, and reward activities within a school-based framework of support, advocacy, and connection.

The Philanthropy & Partnerships Manager is pivotal to developing the expanding and diverse portfolio of sponsors, supporters, stakeholders, and advocates for the Shooting Stars Program, which sits within the Glass Jar Australia business development area. You will lead the team to raise income from high-net-worth individuals, corporates, trusts, foundations, and grants whilst ensuring partnership servicing obligations of current and future funding commitments are met. 

 Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Officer, the Philanthropy & Partnerships Manager is responsible for securing, managing, and executing all commercial, grants and philanthropic revenue growth opportunities of Glass Jar Australia (GJA) programs. The role will support the GJA team and service business development needs in line with the overall transformation and growth agenda.

The role plays an important part in diversifying income streams and developing relationships across all current and future Shooting Stars sites throughout the country, against a platform of continual enhancement and performance to achieve the organisation's strategic goals.

Core Duties Include:

  • Managing and executing all commercial revenue growth opportunities of Shooting Stars and deliver against the organisation's strategic business development goals;
  • Delivering strategic and operational management of the GJA Philanthropy and Partnerships strategy;
  • Managing a portfolio of individual, trust, and grant prospects capable of making six figure and above gifts to the program;
  • Leading business development initiatives and foster prospects through the pipeline;
  • Supporting the procurement of Federal, State and Local Government grant opportunities;
  • Ensuring achievement against set revenue and prospect targets in line with overall budgeted KPI’s;
  • Working independently to plan and implement creative strategies to increase philanthropic gifts, by creating bespoke cultivation and solicitation plans that utilise staff effectively;
  • Enhancing the long-term sustainability of GJA by promoting social impact advocacy through commercial growth;
  • Creating prospecting opportunities through various business development techniques within the organisation’s network and your own donor pool to generate new leads;
  • Preparing written briefings for senior management and site visits with donors and prospective donors, as well as follow up documentation and correspondence;
  • Leveraging outcomes for the broader participation base and those communities in which we operate through the provision of corporate alignment;
  • Planning and execution of events related to the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors;
  • Being an active and responsible member of the team; supporting the senior team members as required and facilitating income generation for the priority areas of the program;
  • Actively seeking and securing new and sustainable corporate partnerships with organisations that share our values and enhance our positioning;
  • Ensuring delivery of approved retention strategies for existing key partners;
  • Ensuring contracted key corporate partners receive structured and professional levels of servicing in line with the wider organisation values;
  • Where relevant, analysing and evaluating fundraising and philanthropic events post each activity and in an annual overview;
  • Ensuring all relevant department activity is delivered within agreed budget parameters;
  • Undertaking detailed analysis and reporting of identified opportunities to determine ROI/ROO and alignment to business and cultural priorities; and
  • Any other duties within the Employees capabilities and which is reasonable to expect the Employee to undertake as directed by the GJA Executive Officer from time to time

Our other essential criteria include:

  • Extensive experience in senior business development, grant writing and fundraising or client relationship management roles;
  • Proven success in working within a results-orientated environment, with a record of achieving personal KPIs and targets;
  • Experience of communicating complex information to a lay audience and influencing multiple parties through written and verbal proposals, reports, and presentations;
  • Experience working with high-net-worth individuals or high value organisations;
  • Experience of relevant industries including education, Aboriginal culture, and community engagement;
  • Relevant experience in a similar role or educated to degree level;
  • Experience of delivering on Equality, Diversity Inclusivity initiatives;
  • Demonstrated experience in reporting to a range of stakeholders including Community, Elders, Board, Executive leadership, external partners, and government;
  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal), negotiation and relationship building skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate and negotiate with government and corporates at all levels;
  • Willingness to learn, and to be flexible and responsive to new opportunities;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets;
  • Proven understanding of the relationships with and an appreciation of the local and national corporate community;
  • Strong time management, presentation skills and the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise tasks;
  • Excellent computer skills and information technology literacy with a range of software applications;
  • Preparedness to be flexible in respect to work hours and inter and intra state travel;
  • Current WA driver’s licence;
  • Working with Children Check; and
  • Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check Clearance (NCCHS)
