About the role

Council’s award-winning Cooling the City Strategy and initiatives have established Penrith City Council as a leader in addressing and managing the impacts of urban heat. The Greening Our City Grants Program has provided an opportunity for Council to create a cooler, greener more liveable city through the planting of over 5,000 trees in parks and suburban streets, in areas of low canopy cover and where residents are more vulnerable to heat.

To coordinate and deliver Council's community engagement component of our Cooling the City Project, we are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong communication and stakeholder management skills to join our Sustainability and Resilience team in the position of Engagement Officer - Cooling the City for a period up to 12 months.

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing a project communication plan with the support of the Sustainability and Resilience team, engaging directly with the community, including residents and schools through various communication platforms and community activities, and liaising with internal stakeholders to deliver an engagement program around the project and the benefits of trees in greening and cooling our City. The position will be required to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver this work.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in community engagement and/or sustainability
  • Demonstrated strong communication, interpersonal skills and stakeholder management experience
  • Demonstrated experience in delivery of community engagement initiatives and development of community resources
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and data management
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service and a passion for positive customer outcomes with demonstrated experience on resolving problems and customer concerns
  • Current Class C driver licence
