Job Description

The Youth Access Team (YAT) Clinician works as a part of a multidisciplinary team, which includes Allied Health Professionals, Private Practitioners, a GP (selected sites), and in partnership with Consortium partners. The aim of the headspace Primary Care team is to improve outcomes in young people’s mental health, physical health, sexual health, and provide support to help young people reach their study and employment goals.

The role of a YAT is to assess young people accessing headspace services, determine the best course of care for their individual needs, and provide short-term intervention and group work as clinically indicated.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Psychology (must be provisionally registered as a minimum), Social Work or Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration or eligibility of respective professional body.
  • If provisionally registered have a current primary supervisor.
  • Demonstrated and extensive brief assessment / triage skills in mental health and ability to co-ordinate care for young people. 
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with young people and carers.
  • Demonstrated skills in decision making, problem solving, negotiation and crisis management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to the mental health needs of young people (12-25 years) and their families.
  • Demonstrated clinical proficiency in assessment and treatment of mental illness such as psychotic disorders, bipolar affective disorder, complex trauma, depression, and anxiety.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication (telephone, verbal and written) and report writing skills
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Ability to liaise with internal and external agencies.
  • Current N.S.W. Driver’s licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience in collaborative partnerships with government or non-government organisations, including working with a range of community partners.
  • Experience working with specific populations of young people (e.g. Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander populations, CALD)
  • Experience working with Drug and Alcohol related issues.
