This Casework Assistant role is for anyone interested in working their way up towards becoming a caseworker but doesn't have the previous experience to hit the ground running just yet! We will give you the training and experience to reach this goal.

About us

Narang Bir-rong Aboriginal Corporation (NBAC) is an ever expanding organisation with a strong focus on making a change for the Aboriginal community.

NBAC provides Family Support Services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in the Western Sydney/Nepean Blue Mountains as well as Out of Home Care placements for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people who cannot remain at home due to abuse and/or neglect.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated person to work for NBAC. The position is based at one of our Penrith offices within the Western Sydney area.

Tasks & responsibilities

This is not your every day assistants role. This role provides high quality administrative support to the Casework team and is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to learn and step into a Caseworker position. You will need to be passionate person and share our values of wanting to provide a high quality service to the Aboriginal community. You will also need have a happy and enthusiastic outlook to the position.

  • We work a 35 hour week. Which means you are flexible with your working hours and work a 7 hour day between 8am – 6pm with a 30 minute lunch break. This could mean you start at 9:30am and finish at 5pm or start at 9am and finish at 4:30pm!

Qualifications & experience

  • Aboriginality, is a genuine qualification under the Anti Discrimination Act.
  • COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate
  • Qualifications or experience in the area of administration area.
  • High level of oral and written communication skills and demonstrated report writing and use of Microsoft office programs including word, excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • High level of systems management including filing systems - physical and online.
  • Experience of knowledge in child and family welfare and in foster care or a related area of alternate care for children is desirable, although not essential.
  • Knowledge of issues surrounding abuse and neglect of children and the impact of trauma and children protection
  • Varied professional and general life experience.
  • Mature outlook and well-developed communication skills.
  • Cleared NSW Working with Children Check and National Police Check
  • Must be a resident of New South Wales.
  • Available for after-hours work.
  • Hold a current NSW Driver’s License.
