The successful candidate will be a senior lawyer with sound experience who will assist the Chief Executive / Deputy Chief Executive with managing the complaints function of the Judicial Commission of NSW. The position is the first point of contact for potential complainants and plays a key role in the gathering and preparation of complaints materials to a standard suitable for consideration by the Judicial Commission in its deliberations. The position provides an excellent opportunity to enhance existing legal expertise and also to gain a better understanding of the Commission’s other functions of judicial education and sentencing research.
The role offers:
Our work is designed to enhance public confidence in the judiciary by promoting the highest standards of judicial behaviour and decision making. The Judicial Officers Act 1986 provides a means for people to complain about the ability or behaviour of judicial officers (but not their decisions) and to have those complaints examined by an independent body. We are also leaders in judicial education and sentencing research and share our knowledge and experience with the global network of judiciaries and judicial education providers. We provide a range of highly regarded resources for judicial officers, including Bench Books, case summaries and other publications to promote consistency in the application of the criminal law and in sentencing.
