ABOUT FARE

FARE is a not-for-profit organisation striving for an Australia free from alcohol harm. Together with values-aligned organisations, health professionals, researchers and communities across the country, we develop evidence-informed policy, enable people-powered advocacy and deliver health promotion programs.

We believe that by working together we can create change to improve our collective health and wellbeing. FARE has a new leadership team, renewed energy and a refreshed strategic focus on how to improve health outcomes for all Australians.

As Media Manager, you will directly advise the leadership team on effective media and public relations strategies that support our policy, advocacy and health promotion objectives. You will work closely with the Communications and Campaign Director and CEO to shape strategy and respond to opportunities as they arise.

You will be instrumental in forming positive relationships with journalists, opinion leaders, and media advisors working in partner organisations, government departments and political offices that further our goals and get coverage, while managing reputational risk.

If you want to be part of a team that is developing and delivering innovative policy solutions and health programs that reduce alcohol harm — and work with an organisation that supports effected communities and people with lived experience to find their voice in public policy advocacy — this job is for you.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

  • Responding to media enquiries, providing advice and support to the leadership team on key messages and approach
  • Crafting and pitching content for publication, including stories, opinion pieces, and speeches
  • Exploring new ways of getting our message out to the broader community
  • Building the profile of FARE, our work and the communities we support
  • Working collaboratively with values-aligned organisations and community spokespeople with lived experience.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TEAM

  • Experience in media advisor or media manager positions, with strong experience in pitching news stories, dealing with reactive press requests and pursuing proactive media opportunities
  • Solid understanding of advocacy organisation, campaign or political approaches to media engagement
  • A passion for improving the health and wellbeing of communities
  • A can-do attitude and enthusiasm to work as part of a small and productive team.

FARE strives to be a supportive and welcoming workplace where everyone feels empowered to bring their authentic selves to work — and is committed to continuous improvement on this front. Alcohol impacts many Australian communities, and so we especially want to make sure FARE is a workplace that embraces diversity and welcomes people who have lived experience of alcohol harms.
