DVCS is a non-government, not-for-profit specialist domestic and family violence service that seeks to reduce violence and abuse in relationships. We provide crisis and long-term support services to help break the domestic and family violence cycle. We are here to support people, both during and after crisis situations as well as support programs for those who use violence, with the aim of bringing about change.

DVCS has been providing services to the Canberra community since 1988, with the initial focus primarily being on crisis intervention. We have grown and evolved over 30 years into a holistic provider of domestic and family violence support services. Our services include a 24/7 telephone crisis counselling service, access to emergency accommodation, help with legal and court matters, support programs and training and education.

Our vision is a world free from violence and abuse.

Role purpose and context:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer the Community Development and Engagement Manager is responsible for driving business development activities to engage with the Canberra community through business development, marketing initiatives, outreach and other engagement strategies to promote DVCS and its programs.

The role will require expertise and demonstrated experience in delivering marketing, fundraising and business development activities that increase engagement and build the brand of DVCS in the community in Canberra. The role will involve extensive networking, development and implementation of marketing initiatives and a continuous improvement strategy to build on the community networks in place and build stronger, long lasting and trusted relationships across the community sector in Canberra.

Working closely with the CEO you will seek out opportunities to collaborate with others, build strong and effective relationships with our current stakeholders, and build new relationships in the community sector to support the organisation to increase its footprint and ensure our services can reach far and wide, to help those who need them in the Canberra community.

This role is permanent full-time, with the possibility of part-time.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Community Development and Engagement Manager will require the following skills, experience and capabilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to liaise with a wide variety of people
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Able to prioritise competing tasks and ensure deadlines are met and expectations managed when issues arise
  • The passion and drive to maintain, strong, positive relationships with people from all sectors of the community
  • Previous experience working in events, fundraising, partnerships or business development
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business
  • Good working knowledge of social media and IT systems, with the ability to learn and adopt new technologies where appropriate
  • Knowledge of reporting and data analytics
  • Social media management, content creation and reporting
  • A demonstrated commitment to the values of equity, inclusion and diversity
  • Current Working with Vulnerable People Card
  • Current driver’s licence
