The NSW Ageing and Disability Commission is an independent agency of the NSW government, established 1 July 2019.
Our role is to better protect older people and adults with disability from abuse, neglect and exploitation in their family, home and community.
The ADC fills a critical gap that was not previously addressed by other complaint and investigative bodies in NSW. We work closely with other government and non-government organisations to support information sharing and referral pathways in order to ensure any older person or adult with disability is protected from abuse, neglect and exploitation.
Our role does not investigate the conduct of paid service providers for older people or adults with disability. Instead, we focus on the conduct of the person’s family and other informal supports, or members known to them from the community.
As the Ageing and Disability Commissioner, you will be responsible for setting the vision and strategic direction for the Ageing and Disability Commission (ADC). As a statutory officer appointed by the Governor of NSW under the Ageing and Disability Commissioner Act 2019, you will be responsible for ensuring the agency’s vision and strategic direction ensures the delivery of its legislative responsibility – to promote the rights of and safeguard adults with a disability and older people from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
You will lead a diverse team, leading and driving the delivery of strategies and reforms that strengthen the Government’s commitment to better protect adults with disability and older people from abuse, neglect and exploitation in their family, home and community.
