Background

The Carbon Market Institute (CMI) is Australia’s peak industry group for business and climate action. CMI’s 2050 vision is for a prosperous, climate resilient, net-zero emissions world and its mission is to help business manage risks and capitalise on opportunities in the transition to a net-zero emissions economy.

CMI requires an Event Coordinator to join a passionate and dedicated team working with Australasian business leading the transition to net-zero emission by 2050. The position will suit a candidate with a minimum of 3-5 years demonstrated experience in event management.

This is a 12-month, part-time position based in CMI’s Melbourne Office, reporting to the Manager – Climate Change Programs & Engagement. The role will work closely with the CMI team and directly with the Communications Manager. The position term is likely to be extended.

About the role

To provide high-level, end-to-end management and coordination of CMI events and projects and to build and maintain productive relationships with event sponsors, suppliers and key supporters throughout the year. Experience in event budgeting and sponsorship procurement will ensure the success of this role and the broader events program.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate, optimise and manage key CMI events: Coordinate existing event portfolio; perform a strategic review of events portfolio, project management and key recommendations for growth and optimisation.
  2. Event revenue activities: Build event revenue streams - maximising sponsorship and other partnership opportunities.
  3. Relationship Management: Oversee successful event partnerships with targeted sponsors towards specific CMI events, as well as with other event stakeholders. Ensure quality of events to achieve CMI Member expectations.

Selection Criteria

  • Event coordination and project management experience (Minimum 3-5 years), demonstrated over a variety of event sizes and venues.
  • Solid budget management and sponsorship revenue experience. Demonstrated ability to use financial reporting systems.
  • Successful relationship and sponsorship management support.
  • Ability to work with other team members and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of climate and carbon issues and the non-profit sector a plus.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Event Coordination and/or project management
  • Formal (tertiary level) relevant qualification preferred
  • Experience in sponsorship/sales/partnership/business development role
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, ability to work well under pressure and with competing tasks
  • Results driven with demonstrated ability to meet and/or exceed set targets/KPIs
  • Good computer skills – competency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Positive mindset and ability to see setbacks as opportunities for growth and development
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Self-reliant, results and outcomes oriented
  • Exceptional team work and collaboration

A remuneration package of $75,000 - $80,000 (pro rata) and commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience (plus statutory superannuation), is being offered.

The position on offer is part time (60% FTE / 3 days per week) but may require flexibility around major events.
