Media and PR Assistant

CHOICE
  • Be part of a dynamic, highly reputable organisation that makes a difference
  • Diverse & inclusive culture with flexible work and social & well being initiatives
  • $50-55k Package | Full-Time | Permanent

At CHOICE, we work everyday to help people navigate complex markets, step in to stop businesses treating people unfairly and fight for governments to create laws in the interests of people, not big corporations.

We’ve been giving people clear-cut advice about products and services since 1959, initially with CHOICE magazine and now through our digital journalism, services and tools.

You will be joining an organisation with a long track record of making a difference. CHOICE has fought for, and won, a national consumer law, protections for people against dodgy financial advice, stronger food labelling laws and much, much more.

About the Opportunity

CHOICE is looking for a Media and PR Assistant to join one of Australia’s most in-demand and trusted media brands.

This is a chance to both have fun and change the world at the same time - from quirky content like “what can I cook in a dishwasher?” to life-changing campaigns that make products safer. You can be a part of it.

  • Write targeted media pitches, collaborating with CHOICE staff to educate, inform and draw audiences to CHOICE’s content and services.
  • Assist our colleagues in the media to create great stories, fostering meaningful and deep relationships across TV, Radio, Print and Digital media.
  • Set up camera crews for filming, help a colleague practice and prepare for an interview, pitch a story to a major news outlet - all in the space of a day - and love the variety.
  • Make sure everything runs smoothly. Ensure our spokespeople have everything they need to do a killer job and show off the best of CHOICE.
  • Manage fast-paced media queries - responding quickly and effectively to media requests.
  • Help us capture meaningful data. Did our media work make an impact? Are we reaching the right audiences?

About You

You’re excited by working in a media environment. You’re just as comfortable crafting a big story over a number of weeks, carefully planning and collaborating with your colleagues to create big splash or dropping everything because a big news story has hit and you have 15 minutes to make the most of it.

  • A great communicator with the ability to produce effective, strategic and targeted communications quickly.
  • A creative thinker who plans ahead but can also respond quickly to new developments
  • Collaborative - your success and the success of your colleagues is one and the same
  • Thorough - you can follow a process, document and balance priorities.

As a junior role, we don’t expect you to have all the contacts in the world or know what to expect from every situation, but we are looking for someone adaptable and willing to learn. We want fresh thinking and ideas about how CHOICE, our work and our people can shine in the media.
