ABOUT THE ROLE

The Co-operative Development Manager leads a team of 3 x Co-op Development Officers, whose main role is to lead and grow Co-operative housing for the independence and wellbeing of people and communities. The role is responsible for facilitating the ongoing development of co-operatives within the Common Equity NSW (CENSW) program through the provision of advice, guidance and training to ensure their long term success, sustainability and compliance with legal and program requirements.

This role will foster positive working relationships between CENSW and co-operatives. This includes providing information, resources and guidance to co-operatives regarding tenancy management, group functioning, conflict and problem resolution, legal matters, planning and financial management to name a few.

The role reports to the Operations Manager and works closely with the Property Management team.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Common Equity NSW is a not for profit Tier 2 Community Housing Provider established in 2009 and is unique in the marketplace as the Peak Body for co-operative housing in the State. We operate in the co-operative housing sector with 32 individual housing co-operatives as members, totalling over 500 properties under management. In addition, the company operates a number of direct managed properties and has a variety of reporting responsibilities as a Community Housing Provider. We seek to assist low-income families and individuals to live better and obtain a brighter, secure future through access to housing they can afford.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant degree and experience in Community Housing and Community Development OR lesser qualification with substantial relevant experience

EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated competency in community-focused service delivery
  • Applying legislation and Community Housing policies
  • Team management / leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience in working with community based or membership based organisations, working with disadvantaged communities and individuals
  • Facilitating group dynamics and developing appropriate interventions and co-ordination of complex projects
  • An understanding of and a commitment to co-operative housing in line with the international principles of co-operation
  • A commitment to social justice

SKILLS

  • Collaborative leadership and team building skills, Supervision and coaching skills
  • Objective analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly written skills (presenting complex information coherently and succinctly)
  • Presentation, training and group facilitation skills
  • Ability to co-ordinate and prioritise multiple, complex tasks, in your own workload and across the team
  • Able to demonstrate a resourceful, resilient and solution-focused approach in challenging environments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • IT knowledge, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams/Word/Excel), working with Tenancy and compliance data (In Greentree)
