The role

We are looking for an experienced senior campaigner to manage our growing fossil fuels program. The role of the Campaign Manager is to develop and implement strategies to prevent the expansion of gas mining and exports and accelerate its phase-out here in Western Australia.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Campaign Manager will lead our gas team and drive the development and implementation of the campaign strategy. In addition, they will work collaboratively with the broader CCWA team to ensure the program is effective, well supported and financially sustainable.

Who we are

The Conservation Council of WA (CCWA) is Western Australia’s leading not-for-profit environment group, with a history of running strategic, people-powered campaigns that win action on climate change and improved environmental protections.

KEY DETAILS:

  • Hours: Full time (4 days a week considered for the right candidate)
  • Salary guide: $90,000 - $105,000 dependent on skills and experience, plus superannuation (11%)
  • Contract period: 3 years
  • Location: The position is based in Perth, Western Australia.
    We are willing to aid the successful candidate with relocation if necessary.

Primary responsibilities

  • Campaign strategy, project coordination and management
  • Lead and manage CCWA’s fossil fuel program. This includes the development & implementation of campaign strategy.
  • Manage staff and volunteers as necessary to assist with achieving campaign objectives.
  • Build, maintain and coordinate alliances with national and international advocacy groups, experts, and other stakeholders.
  • Act as a media spokesperson for the fossil fuels program.
  • Undertake research and analysis and gather intelligence to inform campaigning activities.
  • Engage and develop relationships with corporations, investors, analysts, shareholder groups, and other stakeholders on behalf of CCWA.
  • Assist in creating campaign content and materials to support our ongoing communications and fundraising programs.

Selection criteria

  • Proven track record designing, executing and evaluating campaigns that build grassroots leadership, shift the public narrative and pressure policymakers to deliver outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement focused campaigns to achieve concrete and measurable outcomes.
  • Experience in a range of campaigning and communication tools, including grassroots and online mobilisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate collaborative strategy development.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver persuasive, audience-targeted strategic public communications, including media and supporter communications.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills alongside the ability to listen thoughtfully summarise complex information in a range of different settings.
  • The ability to relate to people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds and maintain professional, positive and warm relationships with staff and stakeholders.
  • The ability to manage and prioritise competing demands (including working on short term urgent projects, alongside medium and longer-term projects). The ability to respond thoughtfully to multiple and competing demands and prioritise work.
  • Experience building and leading an effective team.
  • Passion for solving the climate crisis and fighting for environmental justice

Desirable

  • A solid understanding of the gas industry in Western Australia
  • Experience consulting and working with Traditional Owners
