Aboriginal Family Legal Services (WA) aims to provide free, culturally secure, legal & support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims and survivors of family violence and/or sexual assault.

Our organisation of 45 staff across six regional offices throughout Western Australia hence this role offers a wide scope of exposure to varied operational tasks and duties. This will be a full-time role working from our corporate office in East Victoria Park.

Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is identified under Section 50(D) of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act. AFLS seeks to recruit an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander into this position.

Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Attend and participate in stakeholder meetings as required.
  • Ensure regions critical event dates are organised.
  • Work with Managing Solicitors across six offices within regional WA to develop and implement Regional Plans that meet AFLS’s strategic and operational objectives.
  • Work with HR and Managers to address staff performance issues.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress of Service Delivery Model on a regular basis.
  • Liaise with Managing Solicitors in the regional offices to ensure administrative processes are consistent, accurate and timely.
  • Work with Managing Solicitors to monitor and evaluate CLE programs delivered in the regions.
  • Be proactive in developing strategies to assist the CEO in meeting AFLS goals.
  • Initiate and respond to stakeholders’ feedback about organisational effectiveness.
  • Participate in team meetings and associated planning activities as needed.
  • Carry out other duties as requested by the CEO.

Essential Criteria

  • Prior experience in a corporate services leadership position
  • Broad range of financial management and administration skills and experience
  • Good operational knowledge and experience running remote operations / organisations
  • Extensive line management experience and a solid understanding of good HR practices
  • Highly organised with good attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Exceptional senior leadership and people management skills and experience, in a values-driven context
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including representing the organisation to senior stakeholders, policy makers etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people

Desirable

  • Experience in working with either: Not-for-profit, Government Funded and or Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation would be highly regarded
  • Knowledge of legal services
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with remote Aboriginal community issues

Essential Eligibility Requirements

  • Current ‘C’ class WA Driver’s License
  • Current Federal Police Clearance
  • Working with Children’s Check
