With the growing percentage of Australians employed in the health and welfare sectors the push for equal pay for Australian women has never been more vital. It's hard to believe, but Australian women are still paid an average of 17% less than men - that's equivalent to having to work an extra 63 days a year just to earn the same income. Now, the Australian Services Union (ASU) has launched a fun campaign encouraging Ms. Gillard to come through with the goods for underpaid community service workers.

In good news for green-job seekers, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott recently released his plan to create a 'Green Army' of environmental workers. His plan comes in response to Rudd's proposal for a Green Jobs Corps, a revamp of the Green Corps, which will provide 10,000 six month traineeships for unemployed people, spread out over three years. But will these national programs create the sort of Green jobs that are really needed to transform the economy in the face of dangerous climate change?

Cutting FBT concessions - A kick in the guts for those in the lowest-paid community jobs

If you already work in a not-for-profit job then you probably know that employees in the NFP sector often receive substantially less than their counterparts in the private sector. So taking away the Fringe Benefits Tax concessions that were introduced to make up for this wage inequality would be a further kick in the guts for those who do the lowest paid community sector jobs.
