The Wilderness Society is a member-based environmental advocacy organisation. Established in 1976, we have been at the forefront of Australia’s most historic environmental campaigns, including the Franklin River, Fraser Island, Wild Rivers, Marine Parks, Tasmanian forests, numerous World Heritage areas and James Price Point in the Kimberley. The Wilderness Society supports Indigenous people's land and sea rights, and is committed to working with traditional owners before, and during campaigns, to protect wilderness and nature.

The Wilderness Society (TWS) group comprises a number of separately incorporated organisations and has Campaign Centres located in a number of capital cities and regional centres. Each of these campaign centres has responsibility for their own governance arrangements in accordance with the relevant state's legislation, their governing documents, and applicable policies and procedures.

In Victoria, TWS has a voluntary, skills-based Committee of Management (CoM) who are responsibile for overseeing the ongoing financial stability and strategic direction of the organisation. The Committee are currently looking for individuals who are committed to putting their energy, ideas and skills towards protecting, promoting and restoring wilderness for future generations. Applicants should have a commitment to the vision and activities of TWS, and strong interpersonal and networking skills.

In particular, the Committee would welcome individuals with skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Governance;
  • Finance;
  • Campaigning and Organising;
  • Fundraising.

Becoming a Committee member requires the following commitment:

  • Approximately 8-10 hours a month including Committee meetings (after hours);
  • Attendance and active participation at monthly Committee meetings and the AGM;
  • Public and professional support of TWS and its activities.
